House of Reps passes Petroleum Industry Governance Bill (PIGB)

Nigeria's House of Representatives has passed the Petroleum Industry Governance Bill (PIGB). The PIGB is the first of the component parts of the old Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) which has undergone series of re-drafting and extensive legislative considerations without successful passage into law since 2008.

The Senate had earlier passed the PIGB on 25 May 2017. The next step is to harmonise the Bill and present to the President for assent.

LIRS issues new form for Return of Income and Claims for Allowances and Reliefs (Form A)

The LIRS has recently released a new form for the filing of income tax returns under the self-assessment scheme.

The form titled the “Income Tax Form for Return of Income and Claims for Allowances and Reliefs” also known as “Form A” can be picked up by individuals and employers from any of the LIRS local tax stations in Lagos State.

The changes introduced include mandatory disclosure of rent paid and details of landlord where the taxpayer is a tenant.

The new form is effective immediately.
