Tax Matters Nigeria

About Taiwo and the Nigeria tax blog

I am a Partner in the Tax and Corporate Advisory Services practice of PwC Nigeria. I joined the firm in 2001 for my National Youth Service, I became a regular staff member in 2002 and seven years later, I became a partner.

I launched this blog in recognition of the growing importance of taxation in Nigeria and to provide an interactive platform for the exchange of ideas and discussions on contemporary tax issues locally and in the international arena. The blog is updated at least twice a month with hot topics in taxation and related issues that I feel professionals, regulators, analysts, investors and other interested parties should be aware of.

I will be delighted to hear your views and comments on the postings on this blog and answer your questions on any of the issues raised.

More about me

I have over 10 years professional experience in taxation, accounting and business consulting in financial services, oil & gas, telecommunications and manufacturing. I’ve worked with both private and public sector organisations to help them create value and optimise their tax positions.

I am widely acknowledged and recognised as expert on topical tax and accounting issues. I am currently the head of PwC’s Tax Academy in Nigeria and I contribute to the annual World Bank Doing Business survey, PwC’s Paying Taxes and Worldwide Tax Summaries publications. For these publications, I provide an overview of taxation in Nigeria and examine the various areas requiring reforms in the tax legislation, administration, policy and practice compared to over 180 other countries around the globe.

I am also the author of an ICAN study pack on taxation for the new professional examination syllabus which commenced in May 2010. I am a member of the Taxation and Fiscal Policy Management Faculty Board of ICAN, Dean of the Direct Taxation Faculty of CITN and a member of the Nigerian Taxation Standards Board.

I represented Nigeria at the ACCA International Assembly in the UK in 2010 and I was elected into the ACCA Council for 3 years with effect from September 2011. I have received many accolades and prizes including ACCA Centenary Merit Award. I am a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA), Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (FCTI), Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA), and a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA).

I have trained and worked in many countries within and outside Africa and I’m often invited to speak at local and international conferences on a variety of tax and accounting issues.
