@Johnson - Leave, tranport, housing and meal are not taxable. You will see a copy of the gazetted amendment on this blog if you check my previous postings on the subject.

Taiwo

@Abayomi - You are unlikely to get a generic template that will address your situation 100%. Given that there is no margin for error in tax matters I suggest you engage a tax consultant to assist you.

Taiwo

@Adeola - Different tax authorities have different positions on the allowances that were not deleted from the law. What matters however is the position of the law. I encourage you to go through my previous articles on the blog for answers to your question on other available allowances.

JOHNSON `TADE ADESANWO

Is leave, housing, transport, meal and other allowances taxable under the new law.
Has the new tax law been gazetted to let us know the effective date of commencement?
What is the commencement date now for we tax practioners at audit firms?

Oyenuga Abayomi

Do we have a template calculator where our income can be included and the tax payable can be generated?

Adekiitan S. Adeola

Good day Mr. Taiwo. Pls I will like to know what is the position of tax authority now concerning non deleting of the old relief and the new tax relief. Further what are the approved reliefs that can be granted to individual aside from personal allowance?
Thank you.

Taiwo

@Karen - all income are taxable whether earned or unearned.

Taiwo

@Adeusi - Yes leave allowance is taxable.

Taiwo

@Tunst - No, the employees cannot be exempted from tax.

Taiwo

@Kenny - I suggest you speak with your payroll manager to understand how your tax is calculated and then ask specific questions.

kenny

i earn a total of 150k per month. the problem is that this amount is emblock and not separated into allowances. How do i know how much i am to be taxed so that my office doesnt cheat me

tunst1

can an employee who works in an international organisation affiliated to united nations be exempted from paying- pay as you earn tax.

ADEUSI ADEWALE RUFUS

IS LEAVE ALLOWANCE TAXABLE UNDER THE NEW TAX LAW ?

karen

this means that all gross unearned income are not taxable

Taiwo

@Lo - yes, life assurance premium is deductible one year in arrears. It is calculated based on the actual premium paid. On your second question, NHS is the responsibility of the employer not the employee.

Taiwo

@Dickson - training and medical allowances are taxable if paid to the employee and no evidence that the money was spent for the purpose of performing employment duties. There is cope to avoid the tax if the employer pays for the training directly and in the case of medical if covered under NHIS.

Taiwo

@Toye - personal relief is the amount of your income which is exempt from tax aside from other statutory deductions. It is calculated as N200k + 20% of your income.

Taiwo

@Sam- all the income you listed are taxable so your company is right to deduct PIT.
